2. JavaScript: Understanding the Weird Parts

JavaScript is one of the foundations that the web is built on, used on just about every website. Understanding JavaScript is an essential skill for modern developers, but it’s also famously difficult to get a handle on, which prevents a lot of developers with basic JavaScript skills from taking full advantage of its capabilities.

If you’ve ever wanted to develop a deeper understanding of Javascript, Udemy is offering a course you might want to check out. “JavaScript: Understanding the Weird Parts” dives into the more difficult parts of Javascript and shows how they all fit together. It’s taught by Anthony Alicea, a Microsoft-certified software application developer and architect, database designer, and user interface designer, with decades of experience across a range of technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, ASP .NET MVC, JavaScript, jQuery, KnockoutJS, AngularJS, NodeJS, LESS, Bootstrap, SQL, Entity Framework and more.

You should expect to cover how JavaScript works so you can use this new knowledge to debug problems and avoid common pitfalls with greater ease.

Students also can expect to cover advanced concepts, which include:

  • Objects and Object Literals
  • Function Expressions
  • Prototypical Inheritance
  • Functional Programming
  • Scope Chains
  • Function Constructors, including new ES6 features
  • IIFEs (Immediately Invoked Function Expressions)
  • Call, Apply, and Bind

You’ll even go deep into the source code within popular frameworks like Underscore and jQuery. And beyond all of that, you’ll learn how to build your very own JavaScript library or framework.

3. Learn and Understand AngularJS

AngularJS is an invaluable framework for creating single-page applications. Unfortunately, many coding tutorials that teach AngularJS simply expect you to copy someone else’s code without understanding the underlying principles at work.

If you really want to use AngularJS effectively, you’re going to need to understand how it works. Right now, Udemy is offering a course that just does that. “Learn and Understand AngularJS” is taught by Anthony Alicea, a Microsoft-certified software application developer and architect, database designer, and user interface designer, with decades of experience across a range of technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, ASP .NET MVC, JavaScript, jQuery, KnockoutJS, AngularJS, NodeJS, LESS, Bootstrap, SQL, Entity Framework and more.

This course is designed for both web developers and designers who’ve never used AngularJS or who’ve had trouble with it in the past. It’s also great for people who’ve used jQuery but are tired of doing things manually.

Throughout this course, you’ll cover everything from directives and dependency injection, to the digest loop, two-way data binding, and watchers. You’ll also learn to work with loosely typed arrays, the event loop and the hash, and custom attributes.

Other highlights include learning how to:

  • Code custom services
  • Design custom directives
  • Tackle concepts like scope, link, and compile
  • Understand two-way binding

Most importantly, you’ll be learning the latest version of AngularJS so you’ll be ahead of the curve as you pursue new work opportunities.

Very helpful. Thank you! There are also many helpful, independent sources on YouTube, although they aren’t curated so it is pretty hit and miss. Still a good option for an initial impression.
